After reading all the bad reviews I had to laugh. People, you have to add fuel just like a Zippo lighter. You also have to strike the striker a few times to get the factory coating off like a farro rod. These lighters where designed for survivalists. Learn how to use it. The thing is awesome!

After a not-that-significant amount of use, the wicking burns away, leaving very little for oil to soak into - making it very difficult to strike and catch flame. Worked better at first, though I wouldn't call it easy to strike even then, and the size of the flame was so inconsistent that I can't imagine anyone using this regularly to light candles OR cigarettes. For something that is advertised as permanent, I'm disappointed that I got less use out of it than I would have a Bic lighter.
That said, it's novel and fun, but the execution fails to live up to the concept. This is absolutely a novelty only, which is disappointing because if it were better I could see myself using it over traditional matches.

I have to laugh because for this not to work means you don't know how to use a simple Zippo lighter. Once you charge the wick and scrape the flint striker it works fine. I know I'm old but not that old to not know you need fuel to light this lighter. It may take a couple strikes but so does my old 60 year old Zippo. Great to have on keychain for emergency.
